Since the beginning of the 19th century, Russia, which began to invade Northern Azerbaijan, including one of its ancient and mysterious corners, Garabagh, after subjugating these lands, created a new system here that could affect almost all areas of reality. However, despite the influence and pressures of the new system, as in the whole of Northern Azerbaijan, the changes in the cultural life of Garabagh, not only did not lose its connection with its centuries-old roots, but deepened this connection and brought about the Turkish-Islamic and European cultural values that reflect Eastern and Western cultures, managed to incorporate. In this period, the leading place in Garabagh literature, which is an integral part of the Azerbaijani literature, belongs to poetry, it was due to its attachment to Eastern poetry, especially to the genius Fuzuli poetry. In the 19th century, in this region, along with famous poets who created works in various genres of classical-romantic poetry - Khurshidbanu Natavan, Gasim bey Zakir, Baba bey Shakir, Mir Mohsun Navvab and others, poets who are little known to the general public also have created, and their names is specially emphasized in the scientific literature published in recent years. Among such poets, it would be appropriate to mention the names of Karbalayi Abdulla Jani oglu, Mirza Ali Mirza Hagverdi oglu, Mirza Mehdi bey Sarıcalli, Jafargulu Khan Arif and many others. In the period under consideration, the cultural life of Garabagh had a special place for the literary majlises that united the progressive intellectuals of the region. The first such majlis in Shusha was held by Mirza Rahim Fena and later named "Majlisi-uns", it continued its activities in the house of Khan Gyzy Natavan, under her direct leadership. Literary majlises held by M.M. Navvab and Kharrat Gulu also took place in this region. In addition to the poets who lived and created in the region, musical performers (instrumental, singer, ashiq), prominent people who created valuable works in various genres of fiction (prose, drama) played a great role in the formation and development of the literary environment of Garabagh during this period.en_US
