Abstract: The process of political consolidation of the Turcoman tribes began in Anatolia and reached its climax in Azerbaijan with the formation of the Qaraqoyunlu, Aqqoyunlu, Safavid, and Afshar states. In this historical period called Turcoman epoch by the author, the ethno-political basis for the formation of our statehood basing on the Oghuz-Turkish tradition and the Azerbaijani nation was created. One of the most significant events of the mentioned period was the formation of the Turcoman consciousness, the consciousness of belonging to the Turcoman nation.
